The Department of Justice has filed charges against the lawyer for the blind sheik who was convicted of masterminding the plot to bomb the World Trade Center in 1993. She allegedly distracted the prison guards, allowing her interpreter and the jailed sheik to exchange a message for an Egyptian terrorist group. All the facts of the case have not been revealed, at least I hope not, but this sounds weak. The guards could not stop the sheik and the interpreter from exchanging information verbally. Was this a written directive? How will they prove that the lawyer knew the two men planned to exchange the message. Perhaps they just took advantage of her talking to the guards Apparently, the lawyer is a well-known, reputable advocate for disliked defendants. Is the government targeting terrorists or targeting lawyers who make sure that the system works fairly for terrorists, vandals and innocents alike?
